Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, known by the mass as the then ‘Bandana’ and now ‘Shatta Wale’ has over the years of his successful music career been dubbed as controversial and infamous. The *dancehall king is mostly on the news for improper or scandalous reasons. This is because the media does not have any interest in breaking good news, but the ones that will cause outrage. Below is a list of 5 of the few times we celebrated the dancehall king.

1. When he held the Queen’s Baton relay

Shatta was privileged to hold the Queen’s Baton relay in August 2014 when it arrived in Ghana. The Queen’s Baton relay is a unique tour of the Commonwealth. The Queen writes a message that is carried within a baton(which travels through all commonwealth) until it is finally read aloud to officially open the 2014 Games in Glasgow, UK.

2. When his song was on the list of 5 must-listen tracks from around the world

In May, 2014, British Newspaper, The Guardian, reported that the five must listen tracks from around the world includes Shatta Wale’s song Wine Ya Waist featuring Davido.

3. When He resurrected Dancehall

Myself and most people (I believe) did not have a taste for or even knew the dancehall music genre. Yes, dancehall music in Ghana came to it peak after Shatta Wale provoked and incident at the 2013 VGMAs.

4. When he made donations

I bet you never heard about Shatta making donations (the media is like that). He every so often has been donating to destitute institutions. Some of which include Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the Accra Police Hospital. He also teamed up with  Light A Million Lives and Quallo’s Production along with Gasmilla, Keche, Episode and Dada Halfco to donate to the victims of the twin disasters (flood and fire) that occurred in Accra on 3 June 2015 in which hundreds of people lost their lives. And the Black Stars too.
