Two (2) out of 12 music bands will be selected to represent Ghana in over 15 festivals in Spain in the Vis A Vis Ghana-Espana project
The Vis A Vis Ghana–Espana project is a professional meeting between Spanish Music Producers and the Musicians from Ghana.
The shortlisted twelve music bands include Della Hayes And Her Women Of Colour, Elom, Fokn Bois, Fra, Gyatabuom And The Lions, Kakatsitsi, King Ayisoba, Kyekyeku & Ghanalogue Highlife, Lamisi, Soulstreet Band, Weku Kronkron Band and the Yibor Afric Band.
Speaking at a Press Conference at the Accra Tourist Information Centre in Accra on Thursday, March 14, 2019, the President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour popularly known as Obour explained that over 80 bands applied by uploading their video performances online and a group of selected professionals shortlisted them to twelve [12] and out the twelve [12], two [2] will be selected to represent Ghana in Spain.
The selected 12 bands are divided into 2 groups having 6 bands each. The bands are expected to perform at the Accra Tourist Information Centre on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16, 2019, respectively to a team of judges. The judges will out of the twelve [12] bands select two [2] best performing bands to represent Ghana in Spain
The 12 unveiled bands are Fra!, GyataBoum and the Lions, Kakatsitsi Master Drummers, Lamisi, Weku Kronkron Band and SSue and the Ananse. The remaining are the Yibor Afric Band, Kyekyeku and Ghanalogue Highlife, Elom, King Ayisoba, Della Hayes and Her Women of Color and Soulstreet Band.
These 2 groups when selected will be signed on to participate in over 15 festivals in Spain. They are also entitled to juicy packages with remuneration not less than 1,000 Euros per day including their transport, accommodation and feeding will be catered for by the Vis A Vis project
“This is a great deal. it’s a great platform for the Ghanaian musician to showcase what you are worth. It is a great platform for Ghana to participate in the global music market. Spanish music festivals are a big deal. Promoters come all the way from the US, Canada and from other parts of Asia and other parts of Europe. This is one of the biggest things happening to the Ghana music industry,” Obour stated
The Vis A Vis Ghana–Espana project is put together by the Spanish government in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), and the Creative Arts Council.
The ‘Ghana Vis a Vis’ is the 10th edition of this cultural cooperation project that aims to generate a better knowledge of African music in Spain and has already been held in other 9 African countries. So far, Vis a Vis has visited Senegal (in two occasions), Ethiopia, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania and Angola.
The Press Conference was attended by members of the Spanish government representatives, Mark Okraku-Mantey from the Creative Council, Rev Yawson of MUSIGA among others.
