The organisers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Charterhouse Ghana on April 12, 2019, unveiled the six Ghanaian artistes who collaborated on the official theme song for the 20th VGMA.

The official theme song for the 2019 VGMA has Joe Mettle, Adina, Kidi, Teephlow, Kuami Eugene and Amandzeba and was produced by Kaywa.

As usual, music enthusiasts and entertainment pundits had their say after listening to it. Others heaped praises whiles some had one or two problems with the song and the latest to join the critics is the President of the Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey.

According to him, the New VGMA theme song lacks proper sound quality, way below the standard of a song supposed to live for the next years.

“The 1976 recording of the Osibisa ‘Warrior’ song sounds better than the latest VGMA song”, he concluded on Showbiz Extra, hosted by Anita Kumah on Luv FM in Kumasi.

Though he bashed the organisers of the annual VGMA’s; Charterhouse’ event management group for failing to consult him before composition, he heaped praise on them for the initiative to compose a new song to lift the face of the awards scheme.

“If you are to listen to the same song for 20 years, you’ll be tired, it’s a good initiative,” he told listeners.

In his view, he was surprised the organisers did not seek advice from him on the project though he is not the only one music person on the VGMA Board, as a music mogul, he should have had a say in it.

“I’d have advised the VGMA not to have used any popular artiste and rather go for neutral people with talent whose voices can’t even be identified, so we can use this music to sell whoever,” he lamented.
