Noella Wiyaala, the Lioness of Africa recently in an interview with Joy posited that she was forced to take her kind of music to the Europeans because Ghanaians don’t feel her vibes.

Explaining further in the said interview, she stated categorically that when an artiste is not doing what the Ghanaian ‘system’ wants, the artiste gets blacklisted and that has been her fate in the Ghana music industry.

Regardless the underrated musician in Ghana is doing so well at the international front as she keeps soaring higher. The new development emanating from the camp of the musician in question has it that she’ll be will join a panel at Cambridge University to discuss Music and Film on Saturday, the 1st June 2019.

The discussion will be a part of the sixth annual Africa Together Conference at Cambridge University. Wiyaala will join Peter Ogbu Okwoche of the BBC and Yaba Badoe, a novelist for the panel discussion. The topic for the panel discussion is dubbed: “Music, Film, Arts and Culture: Retelling African Stories.

Since being “spotted at BBC’s Global Beats in 2014, Wiyaala has emerged as one of Ghana’s leading international touring artists. She has performed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, WOMAD UK and the Timitar Festival in Morocco.

As a reminder, Wiyaala is a musician from Funsi, a village in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Her music is a fusion of West African folk songs and Afro-pop informed by traditional storytelling and enlivened with spectacular ancestral dance choreography.

Wiyaala also founded and organized the Djimba World Music Festival in Funsi, which is now in its third year. She is an influencer for UNICEF Ghana and campaigns for the abolition of FGM, Early Child Marriage and the rights of children.

The truth is, Noella Wiyaala is one of Ghana’s talented Afro-pop singers putting the nation on the map through her authentic music and we’re proud of her lioness spirit and burning desire to make name for herself despite the fact that she’s less appreciated in Ghana.
