Politicians are a Failure to the Music Industry – Okyeame Kwame Says

Celebrated Hiplife musician, Okyeame Kwame has revealed his deep concern about the current state of the Ghanaian music industry. He stated that the industry has been unprogressive for several years because politicians in the helm of affairs have continuously neglected the music industry.

In an interview with Attractive Mustapha,Okyeame Kwame said that, although a lot of things have seemingly improved within the industry, it is has been rather slow because  according to him;

“the musician has failed himself, the corporate world has failed the musician and also the politicians have failed the musicians and the industry as a whole.”

He added that one thing that is really affecting the growth of Ghanaian music is the negative perception of musicians. The corporate world looks down on artists and does not place the appropriate value during contracts and business engagements.

Sighting Nigeria as an example, Okyeame Kwame said that the Nigerian government infuses millions of Dollars into their Entertainment industry which has changed the bad perception about Nigeria. He added that music which adds up to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product(GDP)

He said; “In Nigeria, I know that every year not less than 6 billion dollars is being invested in their entertainment industry. Initially, when you think of Nigeria the first thing that comes to mind is ‘419’, but today because their politicians have understood the role of Arts in the economy, they invest huge money into the industry which has increased their GDP tremendously,”
