Deontay Wilder was rushed to hospital in their heavyweight title rematch following his defeat to Tyson Fury.

The 34-year-old American boxer suffered his career’s first professional loss as he was knocked down twice in the seventh round of the fight in Las Vegas on Sunday morning before his defeat to his British opponent, 31.

The fight ended with questions about a burst eardrum after blood from Wilder’s left ear and mouth was seen pouring out.

Fury was proclaimed a heavyweight champion of the WBC after the bout, but Wilder skipped his post-fight press conference as he was rushed to a nearby hospital for further check-up after seeing his ear in his dressing room stitched.

His trainer, Jay Deas, took his place at the press conference and said: “He had a small cut inside the ear that might have impaired his balance so he’ll get some stitches.

“That’s the extent of it; it was a gruelling fight against a gruelling fighter. This will give him some time to enjoy his family and rest up.”
