The $100m To Fight The Coronavirus Is Not Ready – Minister Of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta Says

In the first nation’s address by President Nana Akufo-Addo concerning the Coronavirus, he indicated that an amount of $100m has been set aside to combat the virus in case it comes to Ghana.

Fast forward 17th March 2020, Ghana has recorded 7 cases of coronavirus, and according to the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, the $100m mentioned by the President to combat the virus is not ready.

He made this revelation when he was briefing parliament today. Mr. Ofori-Atta disclosed that Ghana has applied to the World Bank to tap into a $12 billion fast track Covid-19 facility and the IMF $10 billion facilities to address the deadly virus.

According to the Ke Ofori-Atta, the government will augment allocations from the two institutions with local resources.

The minority is, however, not enthused about the revelation of the Finance Minister. Former deputy Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson argued the minister should have given the house details about the $100 million dollars for Covid-19.
