Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research is calling for a complete shutdown in the Coronavirus outbreak.

Noguchi Memorial Institute (NMIMR), Ghana’s leading biomedical research institute at the University of Ghana, has called on the government of the 4th Republic of Ghana to ensure that no form of social gathering exists in the country, as the cases of coronavirus in Ghana continue to double.

In today’s stories on Daily Graphic, the hospital’s report was included as the panelists of a show on UTV were giving an update on Covid-19.

The hospital has also advised Ghanaians to conduct a mass test to ensure that everyone is free from this deadly virus.

As at Monday, March 23, Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ghana now 27; death toll hits 2.

Cases of the novel coronavirus in Ghana have reached 27 while the death toll has reached 2.

The Ghana Health Service confirmed the new cases on its website.

A total of 521 suspicious patients according to the Ghana Health Service were screened for COVID-19 by Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR).

“Out of the suspected, twenty-seven (27) cases including two (2) deaths have been confirmed. All the twenty-five (25) confirmed cases are receiving treatment in isolation,”

the statement added but failed to give details on the patient who passed on.

The Ghana Health Service stated that among the confirmed cases;

“20 are of Ghanaian nationality, majority of whom returned home from affected countries. Seven (7) are of other nationals namely: Norway, Lebanon, China, France, UK.”

As regards contact tracing, according to the Service, a total of 598 contacts have been identified and are being tracked.

“One (1) of the contacts developed symptoms and has been confirmed positive. Nineteen (19) people have completed the 14 days of mandatory follow up,”

the statement added.
