Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has reacted after hearing that the High Court has given the National Identification Authority (NIA) the freedom to continue its registration exercise for the Ghana card.

Is was reported that, the Accra High Court has dismissed an injunction application seeking to stop the National Identification Authority from continuing with its Ghana Card registration in the Eastern Region.

According to the court, the NIA’s decision to go ahead with the registration is not against the President’s directive suspending all public gatherings.

The Judge, Justice Anthony Oppong explained that the directive did not stop operations of businesses but rather asked operators to observe certain protocols including social distancing.

Reacting to the new, John Dumelo has taken to his twitter page to express his disappointment at the High Court ruling which gives the NIA the freedom to continue its registration exercise for the Ghana card despite President Akufo-Addo ban on the social gathering.

According to him, Covid-19 cases keeps increasing daily hence the ruling of the court defeats the purpose of the President’s directives and citizens will be justified to disrespect them.

Our Covid-19 cases are increasing daily, the President has asked us to practice social distancing and stay at home, yet a High Court in Accra has ruled that NIA can continue mass registration. We take one step forward and two steps back.
