The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded a new Ebola case two days away from officially ending its Ebola outbreak, which started on August 1, 2008 and has led to 2,264 deaths from 3,801 cases.

The world is still dealing with Coronavirus, popularly named Covid-19 but a new case of Ebola has been identified in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The news of the reported case came minutes after an International Health Regulations Emergency Committee meeting on Ebola concluded in DRC.

As with all reported cases of Ebola, efforts are now under way to find out whoever may have been in touch with the person to give them the vaccine and monitor their health status.

An alert is a person with symptoms that might have been due to Ebola, or any death in a high-risk area that might have been due to Ebola.

Thousands of warnings are still being reviewed daily as part of the active Ebola surveillance program in place to respond to this continuing outbreak in DRC.

The DRC’s Emergency Committee on Ebola will convene again next week to re-evaluate its recommendations in light of this new knowledge.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organisation on Twitter has reacted to the news.

According to him, a meeting was convened on Friday, April 10 with Emergency Committee on this sudden new case of the disease the world thought have gotten rid off but surveillance and response teams on the ground have confirmed new case in Democratic Republic of Congo.
