Information reaching thedistin.com shows that 14 persons have been arrested by the police for defying th public gathering directive as they performed Dipo rites on some young girls in Somanya.

Dipo is a Ghanaian traditional festival celebrated by the people of Odumase in the Eastern Region. Parents upon hearing the announcement of the rites send their qualified girls to the chief priest.

According to the person performing the Dipo rites, they indicated that the rite is a tradition that needs to be performed when the time is due.

The persons indicated that they are aware that there’s coronavirus in Ghana as such they ensured that
the young girls wore nose masks and practiced social distancing during the Dipo rites.

However, the Assembly man of the area upon hearing some noise in the area and wondered what going on.

Upon getting to the place, he was shocked that persons were performing Dipo rites amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, the police came to the area and arrested 14 persons thus 10 young girls and 4 adults, for defying the public gathering directive.

According to reports, the young girls were granted bail while the 4 adults are being processed for the court to answer why they defied the directives.
