The Canadian rapper Drake did a freestyle on 7th July 2018 while in London and it was his first media freestyle since Hot 97 Freestyle
It was released a week after his record-setting fifth studio album Scorpion.
Meanwhile Ghana’s most creative rapper MDK who released his long-anticipated rap song yesterday titled “Nonsense” is accused of stealing few lines from that freestyle
Ghanaians who have probably heard Drake’s freestyle already realized he took a few melody and rhythm from his freestyle
Anyway, this is music, these things do happen but normally through the right way
If MDK was all over the international market his song would have been heard already and he could be sued but somehow in Ghana or let us say in Africa that part of the music thus Intellectual property right isn’t taken seriously
Truth is he didn’t use the exact words or lyrics Drake used but he did steal his melody and rhythm
