Two bandits out of six criminals who work with the AK-47-wielding gang have been gunned down by the police amid a fierce gun battle between the police and the criminals at a new site in Atasamanso, a suburb of Kumasi on June 9, 2020, Tuesday around 6:45 p.m.
In the process to apprehend the culprits who were using a BMW car, one of the police cops got injured when a gunshot was fired by the convicts after which he was taken to the nearby hospital for treatment.
The dangerous firing began when they noticed the Anti-Robbery Taskforce were heading towards their direction to attack them.
The police retreated and started firing guns as they were chasing the bandits. This actually caught the attention of the residents to surround the area of incidence which hindered the operation of the police force.
In order to ensure the safety of a resident from being shot, they reduced the rate at which guns were fired. This gave the convicts, the opportunity to disappear but two of them were gunned amid the process whereas the other four took to their heels into a hideout.
Both vehicles used in the mission were destroyed due to the fierce gunshots and the police seized an AK-47 assault rifle and a foreign pistol from the armed robbers.
According to the police, measures have been put in place to arrest to capture the other remaining armed robbers and to face the law of court.
