Ghana Hajj Board and Saudi official to refund full monies to pilgrims after this year’s edition was canceled due to COVID-19
The cancellation of this year’s Hajj per the statement issued on June 22nd, 2020, by the Saudi Government, is based on the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic and the risk that it continues to present to the well-being of society.

Asalamu Alaikum,On June 22nd, 2020 the Minister of Hajj and Umrah and the Government of Saudi Arabia issued a statement to the whole world of Islam that, the Hall for this year is canceled for international participants. The cancellation of this year’s Hajj per the statement issued on June 22nd, 2020, by the Saudi Government, is based on the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic and the risk that it continues to present to the well-being of society.
In light of the above, Ghanaian pilgrims will not be able to travel to Makkah, to perform Hajj this year. The Hall board, therefore, wishes to assure all Ghanaian pilgrims who have paid their fees for Hall 2020 that Management is presently communicating with the Saudi Officials, to ensure that full refunds for those pilgrims are successfully concluded.
The Hajj Board has received requests from pilgrims and Hall agents for refunds of Hajj fees. The Hajj Board and the Ghana Hajj Agents Association both acknowledge that monies paid by pilgrims are intended to pay for Hajj services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia including accommodation, feeding, transportation, procurement of Hajj bags, etc. Deposits for these services were made as far back as February/2020, in preparation for smooth and successful Hajj as experienced in the past three years by Ghanaian pilgrims, since the assumption of the Board. We have received an indication from Saudi Authorities that, refunds would be processed by September 2020, which is after the local Hajj has concluded. The Hajj board request that the general public disregard any previous statement radio/TV interviews or social media post that has been made with respect to the cancellation of Hajj 2020. Respectfully we ask all persons who have, directly or via their Hall agents, paid monies to the Hajj Board through the Bank, to cooperate with Management, as we work to successfully address their concerns.
