President Nana Akufo-Addo Dankwah Takes Over Mahamadou Issoufou As The New ECOWAS Chairman

President Nana Akuffo Addo Dankwah has been elected as the new chairman of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

He was chosen to take over the president of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou who was appointed on 29 June 2019.

That was done at the ongoing 57th ECOWAS Summit in Niamey, which is Niger ‘s capital.

His election has made him the 35th President to preside over ECOWAS since it was established in 1975.

The ECOWAS body will be headed by Nana Addo for 1 year before another election will be held.

The Economic Community of West African States, also known as ECOWAS, is a regional political and economic union of fifteen countries located in West Africa. Collectively, these countries comprise an area of 5,114,162 km², and in 2015 had an estimated population of over 349 million.
