Thomas Amoani: Adeiso SHS Graduate Who Scored 8As In WASSCE To Study In The UK Following Nana Addo’s Directive (Photo)

Thomas Amoani, the student from the Adeiso Senior High School in the Eastern Region, who obtained grade A1 in all eight subjects in the 2020 WASSCE to study in the UK after President Nana Addo intervened

He obtained Excellent grades of A1 in Social Studies, English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science, Economics, Geography, Government, and Mathematics (Elective).

His dream is to attend the University of Ghana to read Economics.

Following the intervention by President Nana Akufo-Addo, Amoani is to have his university education in the United Kingdom (UK).

Not long after WAEC released the result of the 2020 WASSCE, Amoaning’s brilliant performance appeared on online media platforms.

In a video sighted on Graphic.com.gh, the boy narrated how he had to walk six kilometers from his home at Asuaba to attend classes at Adeiso SHS every school day. Click here to watch the video

His challenge after passing getting the ultimate in WASSCE was how he was going to realize his dream of pursuing a degree in Economics from the University of Ghana.

After coming across the story of Amoaning, Akufo-Addo directed the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat (GSS) to offer the boy a scholarship based on his excellent performance in the WASSCE.

In a letter sighted by thedistin.com on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat disclosed that the socio-geographical background of Amoah was taken into consideration by the president in the offer of the scholarship.

Already, the letter signed by the registrar at the secretariat Kingsley Agyemang indicated, Amoaning’s family has been contacted and a meeting is expected to be held on Friday, November 27, 2020, to discuss the scholarship in detail.

Following the meeting with Amoaning’s family and a review by the GSS, the dream of studying at the University of Ghana has been upgraded.

A letter from the GSS sighted online has revealed that the head of education at the Ghana High Commission in the UK has been directed to immediately initiate processes to get Amoani admitted into a school there.

Amoani’s scholarship to the UK will include full tuition, accommodation, monthly stipends. return air tickets, health insurance, and other benefits.

The letter further said the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat’s decentralized application and award processes will ensure that, students in similar situations are identified and given the necessary government sponsorship for their tertiary education
