In our History education during our basic school in Ghana, we all learnt about Yaa Asantewaa.

According to the history books and what we’ve read about her, she was a warrior who led the Ashantis to fight the white.
Accompanied to this history is a popular black and white photo of a woman in war regalia holding a gun which we were told was Yaa Asantewaa.
Meanwhile, her super-popular photo which we all know of and which has been used for a statue in the Ashanti Region is said to be fake.
