Personnel from the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service have picked up 230 suspected criminals and sex workers.

The suspects, made up of Ghanaians and nationals from Togo, Benin and Nigeria, among others, were picked up from the environs of Soja Bar, located at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, in a three-hour swoop that started at 11 pm on Wednesday evening.

Police say they took this action after receiving reports of drug peddling and robbery activities in the area and monitored the situation for two weeks.

Speaking to the media, the Director of Operations at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Arhin Kwasi Annor, said such operations will be replicated to curb crime across the city.

The suspects are yet to be screened.

“Those found culpable will be dealt with. We have already sent an extract to the CID for them to release some investigators to us, so they can start screening the suspects.”

ACP Annor also said there are also plans to hand over the foreign nationals to the Ghana Immigration Service for further action.
