A student of St. Stephens SHS have been given 25 lashes despite a ban on corporal punishment in schools.

The Ghana Education Service in 2017 banned all forms of corporal punishment of children in schools in Ghana as part of efforts aimed at promoting a safe and protective learning environment for children.

The GES directed in January 2019 that a Positive Discipline Toolkit which gives alternatives to corporal punishments be adopted by all teachers. 

However, this video circulating on social media shows a teacher of St. Stephens SHS seriously lashing a student.

In the video, the student who bare chested is seen leaning unto a table as the teacher whips him mercilessly.

One cannot tell what actually the student did to warrant such a punishment.
