President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reveals that the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) will in the coming weeks announce how Cinemas will operate when its reopened

He made the announcement in his Update No. 25 on measures being taken against coronavirus in Ghana.

Delivering the update on Sunday night, May 16, 2021, the President said Government in making plans towards the reopening of cinemas and theatres will engage cinema owners and operators on a set of protocols and guidelines that need to be put in place and implemented by all operators before eventual re-opening.

Cinemas and theatres in Ghana have been closed after the country recorded its first two cases of coronavirus since March 15, 2020.

In recent days, some entertainment stakeholders and most film makers have been campaigning for the reopening of the country’s cinemas since most pubs and recreational centers are operating.

Meanwhile, the President has considered their reasons and has decided to finally do something about it

President Akufo-Addo said he remains hopeful that everything will return to normal if the safety protocols rolled out by the GHS and GTA are respected..

In a move towards the reopening of cinemas and theatres, the government has engaged cinema owners and operators on a set of protocols and guidelines that need to be put in place and implemented by all operators before the eventual re-opening.

In the coming weeks, the Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Tourism Authority will be announcing these protocols and mandatory modalities, and work with the operators on a set of directives that will ensure the health and safety of all patrons and staff in all the facilities involved
