Who is Carrie Johnson?

Carrie Johnson (real name: Caroline Louise Beavan Symonds) is a British media consultant and the wife of former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson.

She was born on March 17, 1988, in London, United Kingdom to Matthew Symonds, co-founder of The Independent, and Josephine McAfee, a lawyer working for that newspaper.

Her paternal grandfather was John Beavan, Baron Ardwick (the one-time editor of the Daily Herald and later, during the 1970s, a Labour Party MEP), and her paternal grandmother was Anne Symonds, a BBC World Service journalist.

How did Boris Johnson meet Carrie? During Boris Johnson’s marriage to his second wife, Marina Wheeler which lasted from 1993–2020, he was seeing Carrie in 2018. Boris was then the Foreign Secretary in the UK.

In fact, Carrie became the first unmarried partner of a prime minister to reside in Downing Street when Johnson became the prime minister in July 2019. On 16 August 2019, she made her first public appearance since entering 10 Downing Street, when she addressed what she called the “gigantic” climate crisis.

Symonds married Boris Johnson on 29 May 2021 in a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral attended by thirty guests.

Symonds and Boris Johnson went on to have kids together in 2020, 2021, and 2023.
