Late WBTV reporter Steve Crump was married to his wife Cathy Crump for close to a decade before his death. Let’s meet his partner and kids (if any).

Steve Crump was an American journalist, documentary film producer, and television reporter for WBTV. In fact, he was long-serving reporter for the network.

He is a graduate of Louisville’s Trinity High School, and Eastern Kentucky University.

Beloved WBTV reporter Steven Crump has died at age 65 following a five-year battle with cancer.

Crump, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in July 2018, died on Thursday, the Myrtle Beach-based CBS affiliate announced.

Who was Steve Crump married to?

Steve Crump was a journalist, documentary film producer, and reporter for WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was born in 1957 in Louisville, Kentucky, and after graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in 1980 with a communications degree, he began his career.

Crump worked at news stations in Florida, Kentucky, and Michigan. Then, in April 1984, he joined the WBTV staff, where he remained for 40 years.

Over the years, he covered several historical events, including Hurricane Hugo, and the infamous Rae Carruth trial.

As a result, his work was recognized with awards like The Gabriel Award.

Crump also received the first-ever Journalist of the Year Award from the National Association of Black Journalists, according to WBTV.com.

Outside of reporting, Crump had a passion for producing documentaries, including the Emmy Award-winning film Orangeburg 50 Years Later, which told the story of the 1968 Orangeburg Massacre.

30 years after joining and working with WBTV, he settled down with his spouse and began to make a family of his own.

So, who is Steve Crump’s wife?

Steve Crump was married to Cathy Crump. The couple tied the knot in 2014, after over 3 decades of working with WBTV, when he was around 57 years.

Steve and Cathy Crump lived together as couple for eight years and stayed out of the spotlight with their relationship.

While Steve was a well known journalist, his partner’s career, educational background, as well as their love story (how they met and where they had their wedding) are not yet known.

His wife Cathy Crump was first to share news about Steve’s death to his station.

In a tribute from Cathy Crump, she said he was determined to share the truth and broadcasting became his chosen vehicle.

“Our hearts are breaking as we share the news of the passing of our beloved Steve,” Cathy said in a statement.

“He was determined to share the truth and broadcasting became the chosen vehicle. His true passion was being a part of the lives of the people in his community and sharing their truths. We will remain steadfast and never forget his passion.”

WBTV also released a statement on Crump’s death, saying: “It is with great sadness that WBTV announces the passing of Steve Crump.

“Steve was a devoted newsman who spent decades passionately telling the stories of the greater Charlotte community. He was also a cherished colleague, friend and mentor to many, both in the WBTV newsroom and throughout the country.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve’s wife, Cathy, and with his many friends who will be touched by his loss.”

Crump’s death came just weeks after he celebrated how far he had come in his fight against the disease.

“On July 22, 2018, my cancer diagnosis continued with one doctor suggesting that I be placed in hospice. We found a successful second opinion and five years later we’re still here,” he said in front of his friends, family, and colleagues at a Five Year Cancer Survivors Brunch, via The Charlotte Observer.

Did Steve Crump have any children?

For the 65 years Steve Crump lived on earth, he was not known to be a father, hence, he had no children. There are no reports about him having a son or a daughter.
