The military general with support from his soldiers orchestrated a coup last week, Wednesday to remove President Ali Bongo as the President of Gabon.
He had the dissolution of all institutions in the country and the cancellation of the election results as well.
On Monday 4th September 2023, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema was sworn in as President of Gabon after taking oath in the presidential palace. The ceremony was packed with government officials and military and local leaders.
After taking the oath he said, “With the new government, made up of experienced people, we’re going to give everyone a chance to hope.”
Before orchestrating the coup and ousting Ali Bongo, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema served as the aide-de-camp to the late President Omar Bongo. He also served as a military attache in Morocco and Senegal.
In 2018 October, he was made the head of the intelligence service of the Republic Guard after he replaced the half-brother of ousted President Ali Bongo, Colonel Frederic Bongo.
In 2020, he took over as the head of the Gabonese Republican Guard.
