Who is Rory McIlroy married to?

Professional golfer, Rory McIlroy has been married once in his life. At age 28, Mcllroy got married to his wife, Erica Stoll, on April 22, 2017.

The couple exchanged their wedding vows during a lavish ceremony at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland. According to E! News, the wedding had very tight security and included several A-list celebrity guests from Stevie Wonder to actor Jamie Dornan.

Mcllroy and Stoll first met at the Ryder Cup, where she had been working as a PGA transport official, in 2012. At the time, she helped him with police to the course in Medinah, Illinois, when he overslept due to a time zone mixup and nearly missed his tee time.

She and McIlroy’s love story didn’t start as love at first sight, the duo were just friends at first. At the time, the golfer was dating Caroline Wozniacki which they eventually got engaged in 2018 but shortly after, they broke up.

Stoll and McIlroy officially started dating in late 2014, but the two kept their relationship quiet and didn’t make many public appearances as a couple at the start.

McIlroy wanted to propose to Stoll in Paris, though the 2015 terrorist attack in the city nearly caused the golfer to cancel the trip.

“We had planned to go to Paris since May, we were always going to go. Then what happened made us unsure what we were going to do. So we decided to go and if we didn’t like it, if we didn’t like the mood of the place, didn’t feel comfortable, we would go somewhere else,” he told the Independent.

After arriving, however, McIlroy decided to go through with his proposal as planned.

“We felt comfortable but I still thought at least at the start of the trip, it might make the rest of the trip even better. So we went out for dinner and that was that. It was a nice trip, a nice way to end the year,” he recalled.

Who is Erica Stoll?

Erica Stoll, like her husband Rory Mcllroy, has a career in sports. She is an American sports administrator.

She was born on 10 September 1987, in Irondequoit, New York, United States.

The New Yorker attended Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in marketing in 2008.

During her high school days, she was an avid tennis player, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.

Stoll previously worked for the PGA of America — a job she knew she wanted straight out of college. “The way PGA employees present themselves is so admirable and professional. That’s the kind of job I want, and it’s doing something I love,” she told the Democrat and Chronicle in 2008.

During her time with the organization, Stoll served as an office manager and the manager of championship volunteer operations.

Rory and Stoll became parents on August 31, 2020 as she welcomed their daughter and only child, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, in Jupiter, Florida.

Stoll does her best to keep her personal life out of the tabloids, and although she has an Instagram account, she keeps it private.

What happened with Rory McIlroy at Ryder Cup?

A furious Rory McIlroy is restrained by fellow golfer Shane Lowry after a confrontation with a Team USA caddie over an alleged ‘incident’ during play.

Europe’s captain, Luke Donald, defended Rory McIlroy after furious scenes involving the Northern Irishman dominated the end of day two at the Ryder Cup.

Donald explained what angered McIlroy during the celebrations of Joe LaCava, caddie for Patrick Cantlay, at the end of an American fourball win. A finger-jabbing McIlroy was later filmed making his disgust perfectly plain in the car park of Marco Simone Golf Club, where he was bundled into a vehicle by his teammate Shane Lowry.

“We love this event because of the passion but we want to do it the right way,” Donald said. “Obviously Rory felt like the line was crossed on the 18th green.”

Cantlay converted a 43ft putt, with McIlroy still waiting to play. McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick missed, meaning victory for Cantlay and Wyndham Clark. “I saw it unfold when Patrick made that putt,” Donald said. “Joe was waving his hat. There was some hat waving going on throughout the day from the crowd. Not [from] our players. I talked to Rory. He politely asked Joe to move aside. He was in his line of vision. He stood there and didn’t move for a while and continued to wave the hat, so Rory was upset about that.”

The waving of hats towards Cantlay had become a theme after it was suggested he was refusing to wear one in protest at not being paid to play in the Ryder Cup, which he later denied.

“Listen, we’re all competitors,” said Donald. “We all want to win but we want to do it in the right way. From what Rory told me, he did ask Joe to move. He took a long time to move. It was a little off-putting because he still had to putt. So Rory got upset and I understand that.”

Lowry and Justin Rose had also made their displeasure towards LaCava plain. LaCava had fired back verbally. Donald admired the way European players defended McIlroy’s cause. “Of course they have their backs,” said the captain. “We are a big family this week. We support each other.”
