Who was Arnold Diaz?

Arnold Diaz was born on July 4, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York.

There is no information about his parents and family members on the internet.

He attended Florida State University where he obtained his degree. He was a Phi Beta Kappa at the time.

He later received his master’s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.

He was a well-known television journalist who headed the WCBS-TV Shame on You series for more than two decades and earned 48 Emmy Awards throughout his career.

He developed his passion for journalism after studying under his mentor, Donald Ungurait, during his studies at the university.

Diaz started his career in Miami, Florida, but eventually returned to his hometown where he landed a job with New York’s CBS affiliate WPIX.

It was there that he gained fame for his Shame on You segment, where he investigated local corruption to root out “scumbags,” said his son Alex Diaz.

Diaz’s ground-breaking segments aired across local channels and led to action by law enforcement. His reports have even been cited by prosecutors as being instrumental in putting scam artists behind bars.

“Shame is something you feel about yourself, and my dad, he believed there was a good person inside of everybody, even scumbags,” shared Alex.

Outside of journalism, Diaz was an avid sports fan and loved music. In fact, earlier this year, Alex said his father travelled with family to New Orleans, Louisiana, for the Jazz & Heritage Festival.

On the trip, Alex said Diaz “outwalked all of us” and was thrilled to see Rage Against the Machine rock out: “Indefatigable was the word to describe my dad.”

While Diaz was determined to uncover wrongdoing, above all, Alex said his father truly believed, “There is a good in everybody.”
