Frank Howard popularly known as Hondo  played most of his career for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Senators/Texas Rangers franchises.

His family released a statement announcing the sad demise of the American baseball player and coach.

Major League Baseball released a statement paying tribute to the Baseball Legend. They said, “Growing up a baseball fan in Washington D.C., Frank Howard was my hero,” Mark Lerner, the Nationals’ owner.”

“The towering home runs he hit into the stands at RFK Stadium gave him the nickname ‘Capital Punisher,’ but I’ll always remember him as a kind and gentle man.”

“The entire Lerner family would like to offer our thoughts and condolences to Frank’s family during this difficult time. The world of baseball has truly lost a giant.”

His former team, Metz, also paid tribute to him. They wrote, “Despite his size, Howard was known to all as ‘The Gentle Giant.

“He was known throughout the organization as one of the most kind and generous individuals.”

Frank Oliver Howard was inducted into the Nationals’ Ring of Honor in 2016.
