Tributes pour in for the late Charlie Munger, who was an American businessman and investor from Omaha, Nebraska. He died aged 99 at a hospital in Santa Barbara, California, on November 28, 2023.

Munger was vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate controlled by Warren Buffett. The pair met in 1959 through an investor client of the latter and the duo went on to become best friends.

Coincidentally, Munger worked at Buffett’s grandfather’s grocery store, Buffet & Sons, when he was a teenager.

Due to their friendship, Buffett described Munger as his closest partner and right-hand man.

Charles “Charlie” Munger was married twice in his lifetime. The names of his widow wife and ex-spouse are Nancy Barry Borthwick and Nancy Huggins Freeman.

From both of his previous marriages, Munger was widowed twice.

He had his first marriage to Huggins at age 21. The late former couple met while studying at the California Institute of Technology.

The pair wed in 1945 and divorced in 1953, but they were parents of three in their eight-year marriage.

Three years following his first divorce, the late Vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway remarried a woman named Nancy Barry.

Borthwick and Munger remained married until 2010 when she passed away at home at 86 years old.

They were parents of four and he served as a stepfather to her two older children from her previous relationships.

On February 6, 2010, Munger’s second wife Nancy Barry Munger died at home at age 86.

Following her graduation, Nancy met her husband on a blind date at Farmer John’s Chicken Dinners.

Both Charlie and Nancy were divorced and had kids from previous marriages.

Nancy Barry was a philanthropist born on July 28, 1923, in Los Angeles, California.

The Stanford alumni received her bachelor’s degree in economics in 1945. She was also elected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

After her graduation, Nancy dedicated the rest of her years to giving back to her community.

Nancy served as a board member for the YMCA in Los Angeles.

Additionally, she was the president of Las Madrinas which provided financial aid to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Almost 30 years after she received her bachelor’s degree, Nancy returned to Stanford University as a member of their Board of Trustees.

On February 6, 2010, it was revealed the Los Angeles native sadly passed away.

What was Nancy Barry’s cause of death?

A cause of death was never disclosed following her death.

However, a statement announcing her death revealed she passed peacefully in her home.

statement released by Stanford University stated: “The Stanford family is deeply saddened by the loss of Nancy Munger.

“Through her service and support to her alma mater, she touched the lives of many, and her warm and generous spirit will continue to be felt throughout the campus, from the light-filled Munger Rotunda that welcomes students to the Bing Wing of Green Library, to the recently completed Munger Graduate Residence. We are very fortunate to have known her.”

Nancy Huggins (real name: Nancy Huggins Freeman) is the ex-spouse of late American billionaire businessman Charlie Munger.

She was the daughter of Frederick R. Huggins and Edith M. Huggins.

She was a Pasadena native who had been Munger’s sister’s roommate at Scripps College. 

On July 22, 2002, Munger’s first wife Nancy Huggins Freeman died of cancer at age 76.

Warren Buffett‘s late friend, Charlie Munger was a father of many. Biologically, he had eight children but in total, he had ten children including sons and daughters.

The names of his kids are Wendy Munger, Molly Munger, Teddy Munger, Charles T. Munger Jr., Emile Munger Ogden, Barry A. Munger, and Philip R. Munger.

Together Charlie and Nancy parented eight children.

He shares his children with two of his wives from both of his marriages.

Charles and Huggins Freeman, his first wife, had three children, Wendy Munger (a former corporate lawyer, trustee of Stanford University, and trustee of The Huntington Library), Molly Munger (a civil rights attorney and funder of a ballot initiative to raise California taxes for public education), and Teddy Munger.

What was Charles Munger’s net worth?

At the time of the business magnate’s passing, he was one of the world’s richest whose fortune rakes in billions of dollars.

Prior to his death, Charles Munger had an estimated staggering net worth of $2.16 billion, according to Forbes.

He was the 1197th richest person on earth per the publication’s real-time billionaire list.

Information about his survivors was not immediately available.

The executive was also a philanthropist and had reportedly donated $110 million to the University of Michigan to fund a new “state of the art” residence hall.

He has also donated $65 million to the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, making it the largest donation in the school’s history.

Munger and his second late wife previously donated 500 shares of Berkshire Hathaway Class A stock, then valued at $43.5 million in 2004, to Stanford to build a graduate student housing complex.
