Management of Kumasi City Market Limited in a press release has asked all shop owners to take a short rest as the place will be closed till 11 am on 12 May.
According to Management, their reason for the closure is to help do maintenance work after a fire caught one of the shops.

In the press, it was stated that, as at 6:30 pm on 11 May 2021, the fire alarm system blew out after it detected fire from one of the shops as at then, about 80% of the shops were closed.
They continued that, a smoke was detected in a shop number F 0956, therefore the water sprinklers were automatically activated while the nearby hydrants and extinguishers were deployed in support.
Due to this, Management and the appropriate authorities will assess the situation in order to take remedial measures to prevent future occurrences
