Dr. Jonah began his work in the early 1970s and joined Ashanti Goldfields in 1979, eventually advancing to the position of CEO. He led the firm to higher heights, making it the first African enterprise to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
In June 2003, Jonah became the first Ghanaian to be knighted in the 21st century when he was presented with an honorary knighthood (KBE) by the then Prince of Wales Prince Charles, now King Charles, in recognition of his achievements as an African businessman, a leading business executive from the Commonwealth, and an international public figure. The exquisite black-tie gala was one of the most historic events in Ghana as both local and international pioneers of Ghanaian descent were honored for their achievements and contribution towards the legacy of Ghana.

Other honorees included the head of the anti-corruption unit at the African Development Bank Anna Bossman, tech innovator Herman Chinery-Hesse, and CEO of Airtel Ghana Lucy Quist.
In 2022, while speaking at the 2022 Graduation Ceremony of Ashesi University, he acknowledged his wife and daughter in his list of eight Ghanaian women leaders who he described as “extraordinarily talented” having worked with them in one capacity or the other.
“And there is also my own wife who is here with me today, a uniquely talented and inspiring woman who conceived and built Africa’s first 5-star Marriott Hotel from scratch; not forgetting my daughter Tamara Jonah who after school chose the entrepreneurial route and set up what has become arguably Ghana’s biggest events management company”.
“These are just a few of the women who have shown that prejudice cannot stop a person who is determined to succeed; and these are women who against all odds, have broken the glass ceiling for your generation to emulate and perhaps even surpass,” he stressed.

She is married to Kwame Eric Goka, the CEO of Twist Group which includes the famous Twist Night Club, and is related to Ghana’s first lady.

On Saturday, February 22, 2014, Sam Jonah lost his son, Richard Jonah to what MyJoyOnline suggests to be a cause of cardiac arrest. Per the source, Richard was on a business trip in London but died suddenly in his hotel room.
His death followed a few days after the unexpected demise of another rising star of Ghana, Komla Dumor who died in London on January 18.
Per Daily Graphic, Richard Jonah was an entrepreneur with over ten years of professional experience, primarily in private equity and investment management in Africa.
He was reportedly the co-founder and the executive director of Jonah Capital with mining interests in some Southern African countries like DR Congo.
Richard Jonah, the report added, also founded Mobus Property Holdings Limited, a privately-held Ghanaian property investment, development, and management company focused on commercial and residential property development.
Sam Jonah’s son, Andrew Jonah has a criminal record and was allegedly involved in drug trafficking. Andrew together with 8 others were to pay the US court an amount of $1.3 million for violation of the US drug law.
Apart from the 20-year prison sentence imposed on Andrew Jonah, he was also said to lose several properties both in Ghana and abroad including houses and cars.
Samantha Jonah is currently married to Joseph Aidoo Jnr., the CEO of Devtraco Plus Ltd., a real estate development firm in Ghana, A-List management, and Brasa Grill Restaurant.
As for Eric Jonah, there is no information about him at the moment.
